Kaufmann Merchantile — Crave It Year Round

When Sebastian Kaufmann, a German expatriate, founded Kaufman Mercantile in 2009, he brought his passion and discerning eye for art, design, culinary science, as well as the great outdoors. Kaufmann Mercantile is a combination of online retailer and a highly edited approach to offering well-designed goods. They started offering only eight items, but that has increased to approximately 600.

All types of new products are launched every Wednesday and Sunday, ranging from weekend bags to kitchen utensils, and from grooming tools to notebooks and stationary.  They also provide interesting articles on their website every other week.  Kaufmann and his team put more thought, more effort, and more time into finding and developing these unique items, then offer them in one place.

The team selects products where equal importance is given, not to only to design, but also functionality and durability. Long-lasting materials go into product design that marries form and function.  Handmade products are their specialty.

The Manual posed a few questions to Sebastian:

Tell us what it is that the brand values.

You should never pay a dollar more than you need to, but you should never pay a dollar less than it’s worth. These are valuable pieces that will enrich your life, not clutter it. Most of the things in the world can now be obtained, but what makes them truly special is who made it, how it was made, when it was made, why it was made, and collectively, why it should be yours.

Give us some insight into your point of view.

Each product comes replete with a blip of verbal wit.  We are selling stuff after all, no need to be terribly serious. We want to make people learn, we want to make them laugh, and if we can do both, then we earn the right to make people lust after merchandise that matters.

Based in Brooklyn, New York, with a warehouse located in Raleigh, North Carolina, they devote a great deal of time researching all that goes into everything they offer. Their slogan, “More of What Matters,” pertains to a point of view of purchasing goods for the life that you live every day. This site is an awesome opportunity to select from durable, fine quality luxury items made under ethical, environmentally safe circumstances.
