Cigar Aficionado’s Top Ten Cigars of 2016
Since 1992, Cigar Aficionado has been the go-to guide for all things tobacco and, just this week, the magazine released its picks for the top ten cigars of 2016.
“Each cigar in The Top 25 list is marked by the two trademarks of high-quality cigars: distinction and consistency,” said Marvin R. Shanken, editor and publisher of Cigar Aficionado. “We are pleased to recognize the art and craftsmanship behind them, which we encourage our readers to try and enjoy.”

To reach their top 25 list, Cigar Aficionado‘s tasting panel sampled over 750 different cigars and rated them throughout the year in their print publication and online-only magazine Cigar Insider. From that long list, the panel took cigars that scored 91 points or higher and began the blind taste-testing process all over again, taking careful consideration of every aspect of how the cigar smokes. Finally, the panel whittled down the list to 25 “of the most sublime, memorable and extraordinary smokes of the year.”
According to Cigar Aficionado, “This year’s winning cigar is unusual, even perhaps unfamiliar since it only came out last summer. Its creator, Litto Gomez and his son Tony collaborated on the cigar, created a bold and savory smoke that begins with strong notes of hickory and leather, followed by a complex spiciness of saffron and cumin as well as a slight tangy note that gracefully brings together the strength and spice.”
